Gary Lee Hunnings

October 20, 1949 - January 10, 2014

In Honor of Gary's Love of Boy Scouts

Mr. Gary Lee Hunnings, 64, passed away Friday, January 10, 2014 and went to heaven to be
with his mother and father.
A memorial service was conducted Monday at 11 am at the Arlington Boulevard Baptist
Church by the Rev. Allison Haynes. The family received friends at the church from 10 to
11 am prior to the service. Burial was at Gethsemane Memorial Park, Morehead City at 3pm on Monday.
Gary, the son of the late William Davis and Mary Banks Hunnings, was a native and longtime
resident of Pitt County. He was a graduate of the NC School for the Deaf in Morganton
where he was a member of the wrestling team. He made many friendships there and
continued to enjoy outings over the years with them and also with local folks in the deaf
He was employed as an auto body repair mechanic for many years until his health caused
him to retire. He had been employed with Tom Smith’s Body Shop, Holt Oldsmobile and
Phelps Chevrolet.
Gary had been involved in scouting and was a lifelong Redskins fan. He was a member of
Arlington Boulevard Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Alanna B. Hunnings; a step-daughter, Janice Stancill and
husband, James, of Grimesland; sister, Mary Hunnings of Beaufort; brothers, William D.
Hunnings, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Beaufort and Jeffrey W. Hunnings and wife, Kathy, of
Blounts Creek; and three nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the N. C. School of the Deaf, 517 W. Fleming
Drive, Morganton, NC 28655.

Homecoming 2006

Gary was the "official" photographer for the Class of 1970
presenting about 150 slides which we scanned and published
throughout the site. And he also provided 8mm films with
a little help help with some friends, converted these films
to digital format for the web. A quick inventory shows
about 2 more films that is in the process of being worked on.
